The recall comes in the wake of a report from the Associated Press that detailed a variety of complaints from 47 Volkswagen owners to the NHTSA. It includes 2019 through 2023 Volkswagen Atlas and 2020 through 2023 Atlas Cross Sport. and Canada due to faulty wiring harnesses that may cause the vehicle to unexpectedly brake on its own. Volkswagen has recalled over 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Sport SUVs in the U.S. Dealers offered to inspect and, if necessary, replace one or both steering knuckles free of charge.Volkswagen Recalls Over 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Sport SUVs VW began notifying owners of this issue on February 16, 2021. The problem was that the front steering knuckle may fracture in the area of the strut mounting, causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash. The issue there, like this most recent recall, affected certain 2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles. Most of these affected only very small numbers of vehicles, but one that was issued in January 2021 affected over 10,000. 2021 VW Atlas Subject to 10 Recalls So FarĪccording to the NHTSA, the 2021 VW Atlas has been the subject of 10 recalls so far. The company adds that it will start notifying consumers when parts become available. VW has indicated that it may not yet have the parts for these repairs.
